Elevator Death Squad and Jerry Macdonell
EDS, out of Endicott, NY, is a heavy metal group who tired of the same style of metal cycling through the Broome County area. They composed new music over the last five years that is much darker and heavier than any regional metal group has ever touched upon, setting a new standard for the bands that have since emerged in the BC area. Any conversation about the genere in the Triple-Cities area is sure to stir up conversations about EDS. Initially I was approached by bassist Greg Baker to create a music video of their first album's title track, "Spread the Plague" back around the middle of 2005. The song itself has a story tied to the album cover about a janitor who becomes infected by a laboratory bred germ which causes homicidal insanity. We decided to use Binghamton, NY is the backdrop for all of the scenes and street footage and I suggested stop-motion animation for additional effect. I took extra care to match up the animation footage carachter positions, frame-by-frame, with the actual video footage. If you take note, the animations of the band transition over to the positions of each member.
TWINK:
The Toy Piano Band and Jerry Macdonell
Mike Langlie, Boston based musician and long time friend of mine, has a knack for doing something unique with vintage kid's toys. He composes kids music with a spin on it that makes it fun for the parents as well. Using everything from slide-whistles to squeak-tubes and his extensive collection of toy pianos he has created over five albums and participated in creating tracks for several compilation albums with other musicians. Mike's unique form of toy piano music mixed with samples and modern dance beats has attracted the attention of television channels such as MTV, CMT and Comedy Central. MTV has used his music as the background for both event listings and in several MTV shows. Comedy Central has played clips of his music in The Colbert Report on at least two occasions. It is my hope that they will have the decency to start giving him credit since they are certianly not paying him for the privelage. The following video is a straight-up artistic animation I created for Mike to the tune of, "Mr. Magic" from the Twink album, The Broken Record. It was created with iMovie and Blender. I kept it simple because it fit the tune. My focus here was camera manipulation and animation timing to the music.
